– A major recall of the fruit released last week by the Food and Drug Administration reached North Carolina.

Jac. Vandenberg, Inc. of Yonkers, New York, recalls 1,727 boxes of fresh peaches, 1,207 boxes of fresh nectarines and 365 boxes of fresh plums because they are potentially contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

The fruit has been distributed to ALDI stores in North Carolina and to dozens of other retailers across the country, including those in Alabama, California, Georgia, Illinois, Kentucky, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Mississippi, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, West Virginia, and Virginia

The recall also applies to some Walmart and Costco businesses, but not in North Carolina, according to the FDA. The peaches, nectarines and prunes sold at ALDI are packaged in a 2-pound bag labeled Rio Duero, EAN # 7804650090281

, 7804650090298, 7804650090304 and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may only experience short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headaches, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriage and stillbirth in pregnant women.

So far, no diseases have been reported.
