On Tuesday, the athletics director of the state of Florida slowed down the rumors about Bob Stoops-to-Tallahassee.
The coaching speculation about the next Florida football club went from zero to 100 mph on Monday.
The Seminoles immediately began finding another head coach after dismissing Willie Taggart on Sunday. The FSU also prompted Glenn Sugiyama of DHR International to continue his search on Monday.
As the rumors in the social media flare up, David Coburn spoke to the Democrat to clean up the record.
Fact: Bob Stoops is "on the list"
Former Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops is the main target of the FSU, according to several democratic sources.
Coburn did not go that far, but acknowledged that Stoops was a candidate.
"He's on the list and certainly someone we'd consider," said Coburn.
The FSU has made contact with Stoops The opening and there are sources of interest from his side.
Rumor: A deal with Stoops is about to begin
Several reports On Monday, it became known that Stoops had a very tight deal that the business would be completed in a few days. A radio talk show said on Tuesday morning that the deal would be finalized on Thursday.
Sources have told the Democrat that the FSU will have the search committee commissioned by it check the top candidates for the opening.
Coburn also fired back on the timeline.

"Rumors that we're about to reach an agreement with Bob Stoops are wrong," Coburn said. "We are on schedule to have someone in this position by the end of the month … the chances of something happening this week are virtually nil."
Coburn said during his press conference on Monday that the FSU would like to have a coach in office by the end of the season, albeit not sooner.
"The stooping was not offered a contract," Coburn told the Democrat.

That was news for Coburn.
"He was not in town to meet with the FSU," Coburn said.
Stoops tweeted two photos on Monday night from the Hard Rock Hotel in Hollywood, Florida.
