The Galaxy Fold should be released on April 26th.

Sixty-nine days after the planned launch, Samsung announced a new release window for the Galaxy Fold the first foldable phone ever. Or rather, a month of publication: September. And only in selected countries, as originally planned. Samsung announced that it would release certain sales dates as the month drew closer – we expect it to do so in August. With this announcement, the world's largest phone manufacturer has finally broken its silence on the nearly $ 2,000 device that has been delayed since April 22 after reviewers reported screen breaks, flickering and bulging ] ,

Although the pre-orders for the Galaxy Fold were sold out on the first day, the phone was never officially offered for sale and no pre-order money was collected. The review unit of CNET has not broken even though it suffered minor damage to the screen . The Fold costs $ 1,980, which is approximately £ 1,500 or $ 2,800.

In addition to a new startup window, Samsung said it had resolved the issues that caused some reviewers' phones to go bust. Bug fixes include:

  • A protective topcoat that extends beyond the bezel and "makes it clear that it is an integral part of the display structure," and not a dust cover that you want to remove.
  • "Reinforcements" to prevent dirt from accumulating under the screen.
  • New "protective caps" to reinforce the top and bottom of the hinge area, which have natural gaps into which particles can penetrate.
  • Metal reinforcements under the screen (the Infinity Flex Display), presumably to make the plastic screen stiffer.
  • Reduction of the air gap between the body of the fold and the hinge.

"We all at Samsung appreciate the support and patience we have received from Galaxy fans around the world," Samsung said in its statement. Samsung has also worked on improving apps, the company said in its statement. The company added that it conducts final quality control tests.

A new sales date confirms that Samsung still believes in the future of the phone, even though some of its critics are staggering. We did not see the new phone as a model or in person, but we're curious how the changes will affect the look of the handset.

Together with 5G, the next-generation networking technology, foldable phone designs have been developed. These may be the most significant changes in the telephone industry in a decade. In a time when sales on heavyweights like Apple and Samsung are out, a phone that folds in half offers a radically new look. It also opens up new possibilities to use a tablet-sized device in a package that is about the size of a large smartphone.

The delay has raised concerns about the ability of foldable phones to keep their design promise, especially at such exorbitant prices. The foldable Huawei mobile Mate X (19459014) costs around $ 2,600 (2,300 euros). Samsung's very public issues have also cast doubt on the willingness of competing phone manufacturers to bring out their own foldable phones.

What happened to the Galaxy Fold?

The Galaxy Fold is bent in the middle with the aid of a plastic screen, as flexible glass shades are not yet available. Unlike glass, the material is relatively soft. Samsung reinforced it with a plastic adhesive that stopped just before the edges. Some reviewers replaced it as if you could find a protective film on some phones.

The screens of these review units did not work anymore. Other reviewers found that an air gap between the screen and the phone's hinge caused dirt or dust to enter the screen. Another experienced a side of the screen that flickered and rendered the Galaxy Fold unusable.

Although there are few, Samsung is no stranger to catastrophic product launches. In 2016, the Galaxy Note 7 was recalled twice in response to the indication that the battery could be overheated until the fire. While Samsung, as some reviewers had expected, collected test equipment, the screen problems of the Galaxy Fold were never dangerous.

Three years after the recall of the Note 7, Samsung is expected to launch the Galaxy Note 10 on its market (confirmed) Unpacked Event on Aug. 7 in New York.

The Galaxy Fold has a 7.3-inch display that can be folded to shield the plastic screen when not in use. A 4.6-inch outdoor screen handles basic functions such as notifications and calls. However, you can use any app. It has a total of six cameras with the same triple-camera setup as the Galaxy S10 . The fingerprint reader sits on the right edge, and the Fold lacks the water-resistant design of other high-end Galaxy phones.

Samsung is currently developing two more foldable phones Bloomberg. It is not clear if the delay in the Fold has also delayed the development of these future devices – or the competing foldable phone launches.

With a launch in September, which is still more than a month away, all eyes are suddenly back on Samsung.
