GameStop PS5 pre-orders are now live and the latest on Amazon, Walmart, and more

Update, September 25th: GameStop appears to have opened the pre-order window. Several CNET employees clicked through and stood in line for a few minutes. Then they landed on an order page – with the message “Not available”. Your mileage may (hopefully) vary.

The PS5 is already proving to be a must this Christmas season. The next generation Sony game console will hit stores on November 12th in two versions: a digital-only version for $ 400 and a Blu-ray model for $ 500. (If you have good broadband and don̵

7;t need optical media – used games, Blu-ray movies, old PS4 games – we recommend you Go with the $ 400 price tag.) But after most retailers started pre-ordering online a day early, the resulting website traffic crashed as if they were being hit by denial-of-service attacks. Almost instantaneous sales disappointed many players.

Thankfully, good news is in sight, starting with this tweet from GameStop on Thursday:

That follows a Sony tweet on Saturday, September 19, in which the company apologized for pre-ordering Snafus and said it “will open more PS5 consoles for pre-order.” The company also promised to “have more PS5 available by the end of the year”.

There are currently no consoles available for pre-order, but there are still accessories (like the new DualSense Wireless Controller) that you can easily reserve. In the meantime, we’ve rounded up the pre-order pages below for major retailers so you can easily search the status of their inventory at any time. If you’re an Xbox fan, you can try your luck with pre-orders for this next-gen console. The $ 300 Xbox Series S. and $ 500 Xbox Series X. are slated to hit stores on November 10, two days before PS5.

GameStop was sold through the pre-order console’s original inventory, but there’s a virtual queue you can get into starting this morning. (Click the button below) You can also order PS5 accessories:

At the Amazon headquarters for the PS5, you can see pictures of PS5 accessories like the DualSense charging cradle, Pulse 3D wireless headset, and HD camera. However, click through to the actual console page and you won’t find a way to order right now.

By my count, Best Buy’s pre-order inventory lasted the longest, but eventually succumbed to demand. You can still get the accessories.

Walmart is also sold out from pre-orders. However, the controller is still available:

Target was one of the first retailers to sell out. You can still pre-order a controller:

Sony let users register here to pre-order a PS5, but as of Thursday evening, the page says “Registration is now closed.”
