GAZA (Reuters) – A Gaza farmer was killed Friday and a second man injured by an Israeli tank, a spokesman for the Gaza ministry of health said on a day of mounting tensions over planned protests by Palestinians along the border with Israel.

An Israeli military spokesman confirmed the incident. "Over night, two suspects approached the security fence and began to operate suspiciously, and the tank fired at them," the spokesman said.
The Palestinians in the Gaza Strip are planning a six-week tent city protest to demand that Palestinian refugees be allowed to return to present-day Israel. They have built dozens of tents at five locations along the border.
Gaza Ministry of Health spokesman said the peasant had been killed and another wounded near Khan Younis town. Residents there said he collected crops to sell later.
"Omar Samour, 27, became a martyr and another citizen was wounded for targeting (Israeli) peasants east of Qarara," said the Ministry of Health.
The military spokesman said Israeli forces had also shot at two other men elsewhere along the Gaza border as they approached the fence and tried to disrupt the security infrastructure. One of them was hit, he said. Gaza sources initially had no details.
