Derek Chauvin, who is charged with murdering the second degree of Floyd’s death on May 25, will be known by video as the ITV.
J. Alexander Kueng, Tou Thao and Thomas Lane, each charged with aiding and abetting second-degree murder and second-degree homicide, will appear in person.
No cameras are allowed in court on Monday.
Chauvin’s bail was set at $ 1.25 million or $ 1 million under certain conditions, while Kueng, Thao, and Lane’s bail was set at $ 1 million or $ 750,000 each under certain conditions. Chauvin (44) and Thao (34) remain in detention, and Lane (37) and Kueng (26) have been released under conditions.
The hearing is held in Minneapolis police custody more than a month after Floyd̵
7;s death. Chauvin pushed Floyd to the floor and pressed his knee on Floyd’s neck for almost eight minutes when Floyd pleaded, “I can’t breathe.” Lane and Kueng helped hold Floyd back while Thao was nearby.
Autopsies by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s office and an independent family-commissioned autopsy concluded that Floyd’s death was a murder, although the causes vary.
The murder of the police, which was recorded on a video by viewers, sparked worldwide protests against racism and police brutality as part of the “Black Lives Matter” movement, and about two thirds of Americans say they support the protests.
The Minneapolis police chief, Medaria Arradondo, fired all four officers and described Floyd’s death as “murder”.
“The tragic death of George Floyd was not due to lack of training – the training was there. Chauvin knew what he was doing,” said Arradondo in a statement.
“The officials knew what was happening – one deliberately caused it and the others could not prevent it. This was murder – it was not a lack of training,” he said.
Chauvin had been a police officer in the Minneapolis police for almost 19 years. Kueng was on his third shift as an officer, Lane had been with the police for four days, and Thao had been an MPD officer since 2012.
