Houston (AP) – Former President George H.W. Bush was hospitalized in Houston for an infection just after he attended his wife Barbara's funeral, a spokesman said Monday.
Jim McGrath said on Twitter that 93-year-old Bush "responds to treatments and apparently" recovers. "He was admitted to the Houston Methodist Hospital on Sunday morning after an infection spread in his bloodstream, McGrath said.
Barbara Bush was in a ceremony on Saturday by her husband and former President Bill Clinton, Barack Obama and George W Bush was laid to rest and her wives, along with current First Lady Melania Trump, was 92, and she and her husband were married for 73 years – the longest presidential marriage in US history.
The older Bush uses a wheelchair and an electric scooter for mobility after developing a form of Parkinson's disease. Several hospitalizations in recent years due to respiratory problems.
He attended the funeral and put on a pair of socks in blue, red and yellow books ̵
McGrath did not explain details during the night of Monday on Bush's condition and said that additional updates would be released "as the events justify."
But he said the 41st President was eager to get well to get to his summer home in Kennebunkport, Maine. 19659002] "He is the most goal-oriented person on this planet," said McGrath.
Her son, former Florida governor Jeb Bush, pointed out during his eulogy on Saturday that his father had recently been in the hospital at the same time. Bara Bush was in the hospital for the last time.
These hospitalizations were not made public at the time.

One year ago, Bush spent two weeks in the hospital for the treatment of pneumonia and chronic bronchitis, a constant irritation of the lining of tubes that carry air into the lungs. Bush's doctors said chronic bronchitis was more common with age and could worsen the symptoms of pneumonia.
Bush was hospitalized for 16 days in January for pneumonia. During this hospital stay, which included the intensive care unit, the doctors inserted a ventilator tube and connected it to a ventilator.
He was also hospitalized in Maine in 2015 after falling at home and fracturing his neck in 2014 for about a week due to shortness of breath. He spent Christmas 2012 in intensive care for a bronchitis-related cough and other problems.
People in their 90s with Parkinson's disease are often at higher risk for pneumonia and other infections because their swallowing process may be at risk, Dr. David Reuben Professor of geriatric medicine at the UCLA Department of Medicine in Los Angeles
"And the stress of losing a loved one can weaken the immune system," he said.
Bacterial infections are treated with antibiotics, he said viral infections require other treatments. Infections that spread to the blood are usually not viral, he said.
The prognosis for such a case would depend on a number of factors, including heart rate, blood pressure and oxygenation, Reuben said.
More of these parameters are abnormal the more serious the case is, "he said.
