Giancarlo Stanton thrives, Mike Trout and Red Sox falter

After months of waiting, the regular season of Major League Baseball finally arrived. The opening day gives reason for optimism. It's a chance for the good teams to prove that they are real, and the bad teams to start a surprise run in the postseason.

But not every team can deliver on that promise. Half of the teams playing on the opening day lose. It is inevitable.

That means little on the whole. In a season with 162 games a game is not enough to draw final conclusions. The Chicago White Sox probably do not have the best offensive in baseball. The Los Angeles Dodgers will not go scoreless all season.

But that will not stop us from picking winners and losers from day one. It might just be a game, but it's pretty big. Every fanbase wants their team to have a strong start, so they attach great importance to the first game of the season.

Here's who we think came through and stalled during the first game in the Major League Baseball season of 2018.
