New flagship smartphones are some of the best-kept secrets in technology, and while leaks often occur a month or two before official release, there are typically enough puzzles to keep things interesting.
But in an almost unbelievable turn of events, the Russian blog Rozetked seems to have gotten a ready-made Google Pixel 3 XL and has released a series of images for the world.
But wait, you say. Google has not even announced an official date for a pixel launch event. So how could this Russian blog get its hands on a finished Pixel 3 XL? Well, after a few people on Twitter an unknown source may have stolen a delivery of pixel phones in transit before relaying a device to the Russian blog.
This sequence of events was not explicitly confirmed by Rozetked, but when translating the blog post from Russian into English, it says in one section: "Google made a big mistake two years before the release of the smartphone lost batch of finished gadgets. "
Wow. And it seems that Rozetked was not the only one to get his hands on a Pixel 3 XL, as another Russian vlogger, coming from Wylsacom, has posted more photos from a similar-looking device on Twitter.
If the device pictured above is legitimate and the rest contains the information posted by Rozetked, what does that tell us about the upcoming Pixel 3 XL?
The first big snack is the huge notch on the top of the screen, which along with the large bottom bezel of the phone makes for a rather embarrassing-looking device. Judging by the two bars at the top and bottom of the phone, it's probably safe to say that Pixel 3, like Pixel 2, will keep its two front-facing stereo speakers.
Unfortunately, it seems to be one thing Google has not continued on the next generation Pixels is its unique, two-color color scheme. On the back of the device shown, it looks completely white until the end. Previously, even with single-color Pixel 2 cameras, Google had a small glass section as opposed to the dull metal backing in the lower part of the device.
Another important thing is the alleged Pixel 3 XL camera, which Rozetk declares will surpass the performance of other high-end smartphones yet again. The Russian site released a separate story and some Instagram shots showing photos taken with the alleged Pixel 3 XL, and they look pretty impressive. That is, it is difficult to judge the image quality without using another image from a device other than a comparison.
The Pixel 3 XL is said to have a 2960×1440 display and a Snapdragon 845 processor while Android 9 Pie is running. These are all things we expect from a new flagship pixel. Unfortunately, Rozetked did not mention the actual size of the device's screen.
The packaging looks like the Pixel 3 XL comes with a double-sided USB-C cable and a USB-C power brick, a USB C-to-headphone dongle and an OTG adapter for transferring data from one phone to another. Lastly, it seems that the Pixel 3 after the leaked photos will be a wired version of Google's Pixel Buds, which was released last year, though it's hard to say whether these wired versions contain the on-the-fly Would translation or Google Assistant features that have made the Pixel Buds so interesting.
We asked Google for an official opinion on this supposed Pixel 3 XL leak. Since the official policy of the company is not to comment on rumors or speculation, the message we receive may not clarify anything.
