Giuliani's statement prompted Mueller's office to play politics with the surprise announcement. Giuliani referred to a similar decision in July, when the Justice Department announced that twelve Russian intelligence officers were being charged with hacking the Democratic National Committee and others.

According to a report by BuzzFeed News, Trump's company planned to hand over the tower's penthouse to Putin as they worked on a real estate deal for the building during the 2016 campaign. The claim was made by four people, including one of the creators of the plan.
However, the plan would have been a "stupid idea," the source said Thursday in Fox News, adding that the president had "never heard of it."
Fox News is reported to have learned that Trump's legal team did not know about such a plan.
The plans for the construction of the building were finally rejected.
In the court records, there is no clear link between Cohen's lies and Mueller's central question as to whether the Trump campaign worked with Russia. And nothing said in court or related court records whether Trump or his aides had coerced Cohen into misleading Congress.
Giuliani told CNN, "neither of the two versions of Michael Cohen creates a problem for what the president says." [News] Matt Richardson and Brooke Singman and the Associated Press contributed to this report.
