General Motors has requested to retain its trademark under the name of Envoy, speculating that the once-popular GMC Envoy SUV signals a resurrection.

GM intends to bring more SUVs to the market, including the double-breasted blazer, due out next year, and the three-row Cadillac XT6. This fact makes it possible that GM intends to use the name of the Envoy on a GMC or possibly a Buick vehicle, speculate some analysts. Buick SUVs were named by GM starting with "En."

GM's filing with the United States Patent and Trademark Office on December 12 did little to solve the mystery. In the notification, GM said the name "Envoy" would be used with a "Sport Utility Vehicle, Engines and structural parts thereof".

GM is mother to its product plans, but is asked if the brand is in demand A spokesperson The company anticipated the reintroduction of the GMC Envoy and did not deny it.

"We protect a variety of names for a variety of reasons," said GM spokesman Pat Morrissey. "For competitive reasons, we do not comment on the potential uses for the names we protect."

Without speculating why GM Envoy is under the Envoy brand name, Kelly Sexton, Associate Vice President, University of Michigan Research, Technology Transfer and Innovation Partnerships, said, "Brand claimants must either use or intend to use the mark for business . "

The name Envoy has not appeared on a GM vehicle for ten years.

From 1998 to 2000, the Envoy SUV was a GMC version of the Chevrolet Trailblazer. In 2002, GMC reinstated the Envoy and stayed in production for seven years until a decline in sales killed him.

General Motors announced plans to close three assembly plants, one each in Michigan, Ohio and Ontario from 2019.

Cheap Gas, SUV Demand

A new envoy would likely be based on a front-wheel-drive architecture similar to the Chevy Blazer, industry experts say. The Blazer and the GMC Acadia Midsize SUV share a platform. GMC offers the terrain, a compact crossover, the mid-range Acadia and the Yukon full-size SUV.

GM launched the GMC Envoy XL with seven passengers in 2006 for the first time. The Chevy Trailblazer EXT SUV was discontinued at that time. Also, as gasoline prices plunged to $ 3 a gallon and blocked SUV sales. In the US, the five passengers and the Trailblazer were produced for up to five years.

However, with US average gasoline prices at $ 2.29 per gallon, consumer preferences have shifted from sedans to SUVs. GM said it will reduce production of five sedans in 2019: Chevrolet Impala, Cruze and Volt, and Buick LaCrosse and Cadillac CT6.

GM showed a new all-electric SUV concept called Enspire at the Beijing Auto Show earlier this year. On 19 December, she also registered under the brand name Enspire.

Buick would not discuss Enspire's plans, except that "it's an exploration of design and new technologies."
