The redesigned Giants defense can force sales.
If this is the most encouraging result from the first real training of 2019, the reversal also concerns leaving the field on Monday: The Giants offensive has given away the ball too often.
"It only shows that they are up-to-date", Janoris Jenkins corner. "Everyone understands what's going on in defense and we play fast."
The Giants have been in the top 10 defenses only once in the NFL over the last five years.
Here are eight observations from the first of 1
1. Rough start for Eli Manning: The undisputed start quarterback of the Giants had a rough first 11-on-11 series when he caught with a surefire catch and another that turned out to be a turnover from the Distant looked, 1-of-6 went. Most other incompleteness have sailed beyond the borders.
Too early to miss Odell Beckham?
According to the great scheme of things, a period of practice means very little for Manning's work. But every time he fights, it's a reminder that his obvious heir (Daniel Jones) is waiting in the wings for the first time.
Participation: Security Antoine Bethea, defensive duel against Dexter Lawrence and defensive end Dalvin Tomlinson did not appear in training. According to Shurmur, the weather caused delays in the travel plans of some players to New Jersey, but did not indicate whether this was the case for all three.
Cornerback Julian Love joined the training about 15 minutes late and jumped a short branch line after going through the drill rotation. The tight end Eric Dungey appeared in teams during the last 45 minutes of special training exercises.
Love, Dungey and Lawrence are newcomers. Lawrence, the number 17 in the standings, is not required, but there is an agreement on the participation of newcomers, which covers injuries of newcomers and prevents salary fluctuations.
. 3 Injuries: Security Sean Chandler and Corner Defender Corey Ballentine appeared side by side while training in uniform.
Ballentine, who was shot in the buttocks during an unresolved crime, was allowed to stay home from the rookie minicamp to mourn the death of his best friend and college teammate Dwane Simmons. He joined his team-mates last week, but is not ready to practice, but has been given private lessons.
Correct approach Mike Remmers, who underwent spinal surgery in the off-season, was signed by the Giants earlier this month after passing a physical exam. He did not participate in the 11 vs. 11 race, but is expected to be ready at the start of the season, Shurmur said.
Left Tackle Nate Solder fails after a foot operation for all 10 OTA's.
4. Catch of the Day: Cornerback Tony Lippett, a former Dolphins starter, flies under the radar after a slow recovery from a tattered Achilles in 2017 ,
Lippett playing In three games for the Giants, Jones had intercepted the interception he had turned into a catch after signing in the mid-season. In 7, he played second-team defense-on-7s with second-team defense, Lippett followed a crossroads route, but stretched his hand up and turned the ball over to himself.
5. What's the Beal? This was the first time Cornerback player Sam Beal had trained in front of Giants Media as the 2018 NFL Supplemental Draft pick worsened an existing shoulder injury in the early days of training camp training as a beginner and operated on at the end of the season.
Beal pushed Manning's pass straight into the air with his arm outstretched, and Jabrill Peppers slipped under to catch it.
"His motor skills were great when we saw him last year," Shurmur said. "It was only a short time. But today he looked good out there. "
. 6 Starter: With many important parts missing due to injury or travel, the Giants' starter on both sides looked like this: LT Brian Mihalik, LG Will Hernandez, C Jon Halapio, RG Kevin Zeitler, RT Chad Wheeler, WR Sterling Shepard, WR Golden Tate, WR Cody Latimer, TE Evan Engram, RB Saquon Barkley, QB Eli Manning.
Defense: DE RJ McIntosh, DE BJ Hill, OLB Kareem Martin, ILB Alec Ogletree, ILB Tae Davis, OLB Markus Golden, CB Janoris Jenkins, CB Sam Beal, CB Grant Haley, S Michael Thomas , S Jabrill Peppers
7. Fumbling and stumbling? There is no contact in OTAs, so it is rare for returns to occur, but Wayne Gallman coughed the ball as Martin pushed from behind to attack him.
Cornerback Antonio Hamilton, who was a special team shooter but had zero defensive snaps last season, scooped the ball carefully and ran in the other direction with a group of blockers.
The role of Saquon Barkley's backup does not offer many opportunities, but there is fierce competition between veterans Gallman, Paul Perkins, and Rod Smith. Slipping under number 2 on this depth map is no-man's-land.
8. A short 6-foot-3? Kareem Martin (6-foot-6), Oshane Ximines (6-foot-4), Lorenzo Carter (6-foot-5) – Markus Golden (6-foot-3) wears a compact 260-pound frame ,
Golden, who is three years off a 12.5-sack season and two years away from an ACL operation, must regain his first step back to becoming a dominant passer.
The Giants also expect him to seal the edge against the run, which was an undervalued part of Olivier Vernon's abilities. Golden says he can play with his hand in the dirt just as well in a 4-3 scheme as in the 3-4 defense.
