Matt Tomaszewski from Boston enjoyed an idyllic day on the coast of New Hampshire. He was sitting on the deck of Ocean Drive with his family, surveying the Seabrook beach on Sunday afternoon.
Then the screams started.
The 29-year-old, who had brought his wife and small child to visit his parents, said he heard people calling for help in the water when he and his father ran to the beach.
They did not know it at the time, but the cries for help came from a group of six people fighting off the coast in a deadly tide. The six swimmers were landed ̵
1; two by Tomaszewski himself – but one of the swimmers, a 49-year-old Methuen man, was unconscious when he was rescued, and was declared dead in a hospital shortly thereafter.

Another swimmer, a 47-year-old Methuen woman, was also unconscious and was taken to New York's Anna Jaques Hospital in Newburyport with life-threatening injuries to state police. She was listed on Sunday night in critical condition, said the state police
