Google pulls plug on Chromecast Audio

  • Do you want the good news or the bad news?

We start with the bad news: Google uses its Chromecast audio streamer with lower sales than its video-capable counterpart. 19659003] The Chromecast Audio was launched in 2015 to become the most affordable music streamer on this side of a Raspberry Pi overnight. It was even made Roon ready last year to become the cheapest endpoint available from Roon.

The sound quality of Chromecast's internal DAC is just what we'd expect from a $ 35 device – nothing fancy – but for a better Chromecast experience, let's touch the 3-D mini-TOSLINK digital output, 5mm jack for connection to an external DAC. It's still not the best digital streamer available – gapless playback remains MIA for Chromecasts streams – no problem for Soundcloud fans like yours, but you need a pretty decent hi-rig to uncover its audible flaws. It's just right for entry-level systems like the LSX from KEF.

The good news is that Google is giving up the remaining stock for Chromecast Audio for a whopping $ 15 priced. RUN …

Farewell Chromecast Audio. We barely knew you.
