Google is updating the camera app on its Pixel phones to work with external microphones when capturing video, as a technical team member of the app confirmed. Android Police reported on the upcoming feature on Friday
Pixel is known for producing great stills, and Google has come up with impressive stabilization for the video end of things. But the microphones of the pixel only capture something like that. External microphones connected to the USB-C port (or the headphone jack in the case of the original pixel) can resolve this.
Some Android camera applications, such as Open Camera, already allow external microphones to record audio data. Pixel handles video. But having the option in the stock app will be good for vloggers and other people who use the pixel as a content creator.
This update should be available at approximately the same time as Pixel 3's retail launch on October 1
External microphone support is a bit niche, but keep in mind that the older pixels also use some of the new camera software features that Google has shown in the Pixel 3 event.
