A New England Aquarium expert confirmed that a creature apparently caught in front of the camera by Cape Cod on Sunday is a great white shark.
A father and son discovered the top predator in Buzzards Bay, while they enjoyed their Sunday afternoon in a boat, according to WCVB.
David and Paul Cody were about 100 yards from Penikese Island when the shark appeared, WCVB reported. Instead of swimming, the shark swam up to her boat.
"It came to us and suddenly it came right under the boat," said senior Cody, David, to WCVB. "It was great. We liked it very much."
An aquarium expert checked cell phone shots of the encounter and confirmed that it was a big white shark, aquarium spokeswoman Diana McCloy told the Globe Sunday night.
The codys could not be reached on Sunday evening for a comment.
At Cape Cod, there have been several shark sightings area this summer, leading to beach closings and other close encounters. A 61-year-old man was also attacked by a shark near Long Nook Beach in Truro earlier this month, with stab wounds in his hip area.
