A Police Officer from Gwinnett County Shot Dead Near Snellville Saturday Night, Police Department Reports
The officer identified as Antwan Toney died after being transferred to Gwinnett Medical Center
A "few dozen" officers and police dogs searched the area for people, police spokesman Jake Smith said. DeKalb County police helped.
The shootings happened to officers [Smith1965900] went into a suspicious vehicle close to Shiloh Middle School.
Shots were fired from inside the vehicle and hit Toney. Smith said he was not sure whether officers returned shots.
The shootings took place after three shootings that took place on Thursday in Georgia killing two men.
At one of the previous shootings, a patrolman was shot from close range along I-75 South in Bartow County, but survived because he wore a body-guards vest. Two soldiers returned the fire and killed the original gunman, according to the Georgia State Patrol.
The other shooting death occurred in Monroe when a man with a replica Thompson dismissed them loudly GBI reportedly to an officer.
In the third incident, a suspect fired on the police in Richland, but no one died.
Officers in Georgia have so far shot 74 civilians to the GBI this year. Last year there were 97 such shootings.
