Is it true that Mr. Trump saw how ICE freed cities from the grip of MS-13?
That's an exaggeration.
US immigration and customs officials have arrested hundreds of MS-13 members in recent months, but the president provided no evidence to show that certain cities had been exempted from the gang
MS -13 Mara Salvatrucha was founded in Los Angeles by Salvadorans who fled civil war in the 1980s. It is believed that more than 10,000 members in the United States, according to the Ministry of Justice ̵
It was unclear which cities Mr. Trump was referring to, and neither the White House nor ICE immediately responded to requests for clarification on Saturday. MS-13 members in the United States are mainly concentrated in or around Los Angeles, Washington and Long Island in New York.
ICE provided data to the New York Times, which showed that 796 members of MS-13 were arrested the fiscal year that ended in September, and 405 were arrested in the first quarter of the current fiscal year.
Members of the gang have committed brutal rape and gruesome murders, mainly targeting immigrant groups. The Department of Justice has made combating MS-13 one of Trump's top priorities, and the White House website calls gang members "pets."
Government immigration critics say the president uses MS-13 to become unfounded fears over immigrants
Mr. Trump's defense of ICE was released after some government critics said that the agency should be closed.
"The Democrats are putting a lot of pressure on ICE, one of the smartest, toughest and most spirited law enforcement groups, to get rid of men and women I've ever seen," he wrote.
The abolition of ICE was not welcomed as part of the platform of the Democratic Party . But calls to shut down the agency come from progressive Democrats like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez at New York, Deb Haaland at New Mexico and Matt Haggman at Florida
Another Tweet Mr. Trump said, "Do not worry or lose your mind about the great and brave men and women of ICE, you are doing a fantastic job of protecting us by eradicating the worst criminal elements."
The Tweets were posted on Saturday morning, as were thousands of people in the United States protesting immigration policies demonstrating the separation of more than 2,000 children from their parents
Mr. Trump signed an order last week to end the separations, and a federal judge ordered Tuesday that all separated families should be reunited within 30 days.
The Trump government has often pointed to a "crisis of illegal immigration" in the UK state border. But government data show that monthly crossings along the Mexico border are much lower than they were years ago, although in recent months there has been a significant increase in border crossings over the same period last year.
He claimed that Representative Nancy Pelosi, the House Democratic Leader, wants to protect "MS-13" – something she did not say. And he said that the number of MS-13 deported members is in the "thousands", which is not possible.
