Health officials warn West Nile-infected mosquitoes found in Jeffersonville

Mosquitoes infected with the West Nile virus were discovered in southern Indiana. According to a press release, in early June, the Clark County Health Department collected mosquito samples in Eastern Jeffersonville near East 10th Street. The samples were tested positive for the West Nile virus. The health department claims to monitor the presence of mosquitoes throughout the region until the temperatures have cooled. According to authorities, residents should continue to take precautionary measures to prevent mosquitoes from infesting them. Protective clothing such as long-sleeved shirts and pants are strongly recommended and residents should not leave too late if mosquitoes are most active. People who become infected with the virus may experience fever, headaches and body aches before fully recovering. Further information on the prevention of mosquito bites can be found here.
