It's Halloween in [

Pokémon GO, and this year's event comes with something we have not seen before: There are new special exams that you will receive immediately after tapping on the research icon. The name of the quest is "A Scary Message" and is a little shorter than the previous tasks in just three steps. The first is no joke and asks you to catch 10 Ghost Poké [mon]] mon, make 8 awesome throws and use 108 berries to help Poké mon. It's the last one that will take you a little longer, especially in less dense areas.

Luckily, we already know a bit about what we'll get from this research assignment, thanks to the celebrity Pokémon GO Dataminers Chrales. You can see the full Quest Dialogue here on Twitter but the gist is that Professor Willow has a problem with a Poltergeist-like Poké Monday, and it becomes Spiritomb.

This marks the first non-mythical special research assignment in Pokémon GO, for which I am here. The first special research task rewarded the players with Mew, the mythical Kanto region Poké Mon, followed by Celebi from the Johto region. And while these are excellent rewards, it's a high-bar for specialized research: there's only so many mythical poké mons, and that's pretty limiting when it's Pokémon's more complex tasks go. That's a shame because specialized research is a great organizational principle for the game: it gives you a job to do when playing this game.

Hopefully this will lead to more regular special research tasks, whether connected to in-game events or not, but we'll see. For now, use berries and take Spiritomb. Previous special research tasks have no time limits, but these will leave the game along with the Halloween event. It is a bit unclear whether we can get it later without trade, but best to get it ourselves while there is still time. The silver pinap berries are also a nice bonus.
