Twenty years after the release of the first game of the series, we received the news today that there will be a third main game Homeworld ,
Gearbox announced the title today at PAX West. The development was taken over by Blackbird Interactive, the studio responsible for not only the Homeworld Remastered Games but also the prequel of Homeworld] Deserts of Kharak as well.
Here is the debut trailer:
It will be a full-blooded sequel to the story of the previous main games (remember, the otherwise excellent Disaster is not treated as a canon) and the return of Homeworld's characteristic 3D real-time space combat . 19659004] As someone who loves Homeworld from the ve This is amazing news, and yet a strange catch is attached to the announcement. Although Gearbox releases the game and it comes from an established studio with a number of successful releases, Homeworld 3 is funded with crowd-funding.
It's just very early in development, with the idea that a campaign on Fig will play a big role in funding the rest of the development of the game. This is from Homeworld 3's Announcement Press Release:
The campaign allows longtime homeworld fans to become investors in Fig and to participate in the game's future success. In addition, investments and engagements provide an opportunity to share with developers what they expect from Homeworld 3 through a Just Supporter Survey. This survey would include things like features, priorities, and even the collector's edition.
I mean … that's Homeworld 3 I'm sure it will bring millions. But it raises questions as to why Gearbox does not simply fund this game completely.
For the moment, however, I will only focus on the fact that Homeworld 3 is coming and linger over this early concept art for the game for an awkward amount of time.
