REDMOND, Ore. – A powerful and refined diesel headlines new features of the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 as General Motors' best-selling brand seems to change perception to its fullest – big pickup is also a big hit compared to Fiat Chrysler's ram models.
GM's brand-new straight-six diesel is smooth, surprisingly quiet and is expected to be launched on the market at least a few months ahead of Ram's new 3.0-liter V6 diesel van.
Diesel has gone out of fashion with car buyers, but they still have followers among the owners of pickups. This is because diesel engines – which is most important in towing – produce more torque and consume less fuel than comparable gasoline engines.
After years in which they did not offer diesel engines for the lightweight 1500/150 trucks, which make up about two-thirds, Chevy, Ford, GMC and Ram have made Diesel the newest front in the Truck Wars. The diesel of the GMC Sierra 1500 will be available soon with the same engine as the Chevy.

Important new features
3.0L inline six-cylinder diesel engine
Adaptive cruise control
New towing functions, including camera with invisible trailer
6.2L 400 horsepower V8 on Custom Trail Boss model available
6.2 l V8 RST model with 13.400 lbs trailer load
The Silverado 1500 diesel was due to be launched every day.
The only remnant will receive the final EPA certification for pickup fuel economy, a move that is normally taken for granted, but has been delayed for many new Model 2020 vehicles due to more than a month of government shutdown last December and January ,
Chevy already delivers diesel to dealers. The cost premium for the 5.3L V8 is $ 2,495, just like a 6.2L V8. It is a significantly lower premium than Ram charges for the old diesel V6 in the remodeled Ram Classic pickup.
A 10-speed automatic transmission is standard on Chevys Diesel.
Diesel engines are expensive engines because they require such additional parts, including the exhaust equipment Volkswagen left its vehicles in the scandal that virtually brought the diesel market to a standstill.
The new Duramax 3.0L from GM is the first new inline six-cylinder that the company has developed since a 4.2-liter engine model that drives medium-sized SUVs for several years at the beginning of this century.
Straight-sixes, as the engines are often called, are less prone to vibration than some other engines. This is especially useful for diesel engines that are louder and jarring compared to gasoline engines.
Luxury brands like Straight-Sixes for their silky smooth operation. BMW has been using them for years, and Mercedes and Jaguar Land Rovers have recently introduced new V6 models.
Chevy's new inline six-cylinder diesel delivers 277 horsepower and 460 pounds of torque. Compared to 250 hp and 440 pound-feet for Ford's 3.0L diesel V6, which is already for sale; and 260 hp / 480 pound-feet for the 3.0L V6 diesel of the 2020 Ram 1500. The 2020 Ram 1500 diesel is expected to hit the market in the third quarter.
Chevy has horsepower to brag about his rights, but the 2020 Ram is fed up with torque and, accordingly, with trailer load, claiming 12,560 pounds. I'd say that's a ton more than Chevy's 9,300 towing capacity, but at 3,260 pounds it's nearly a ton and a half. Ford's Diesel F-150 splits the difference with 11,400 pounds of trailer load.
The Flint 3.0L Duramax diesel is expected to account for around 10% of the total Silverado 1500 sales. Duramax is the brand name that GM uses for its diesel engines.

Even the most modern diesel engines are known to be louder, more shaky and generally less refined than the gasoline engines, but Chevy's new I It's as gentle as a gasoline engine and there's virtually no rattling that makes other diesel engines appear half a block away before you can read the badge on the tailgate.
The engine delivers 95% of its maximum torque at only 1,500 rpm, which means that the beefy power you want when you tow a heavy trailer is quickly available at takeoff and when pulling up a trailer on a long Without any EPA-certified fuel economy data, Chevy does not have the mpg boaster, which is no doubt supposed to offset Ford's and Ram's higher towing capacity, but the Silverado team did some testing to the over simulate driving situations on a spring day at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Chevy claimed that a Silverado 1500 4WD diesel achieved 35.9 MPG compared to 31.3 MPG for a F-159 4WD diesel. The gap narrowed to 1 mpg – 26.7 Chevy, 25.7 Ford – at 65 mph. The new ram diesel was not available for testing.
If the official EPA MPG ratings give the Silverado 1500 diesel a similar benefit, fuel economy, performance and quiet, smooth running, this round of the Truck Wars could go to Chevrolet.
