According to Vice President Hamilton Mourao, the Chinese telecommunications company Huawei is not allowed to operate a fifth generation (5G) mobile network in Brazil.
Mourao said the idea of banning Huawei is not being considered by his government.
"No, not here, not in our government … We are a country that needs to be integrated digitally – leave Brasilia and get 50 kilometers away and already there is no cell phone signal," he said.
Mourao confirmed that President Jair Bolsonaro was asked by US President Donald Trump to reject Huawei's technology in developing new mobile networks during his visit to the US in March.
Washington declared a national emergency last month for alleged technological threats and announced restrictions on the sale and transfer of American technologies to Huawei.
The US government has not provided substantiated evidence to back up its allegation that Huawei could use its network equipment to spy on foreign governments for the Chinese government.
