Huawei has grown from being an underdog to one of the biggest mobile phone brands in the world, thanks to a combination of strong marketing and manufacturing of ever-improving cell phones.
The new Huawei P30 Pro needs a lot from what we've seen with the Huawei Mate 20 Pro, but it does improve some design elements and reboot the camera – and it's a much more powerful phone than the Huawei P30.
We spent an hour playing with the new Chinese brand handset, and while a few elements felt a little too familiar, some of the camera's features blew us away.
Design and Screen
The Huawei P30 Pro is available in four colors: a bright blue (Breathing Crystal … we know it), The purple / blue mix of & # 39; Aurora & # 39 ;, the orange & Amber & # 39; 39; Sunrise and the standard … "Black")
The area is pearlescent and shimmering wi The different tones are pretty attractive, except for black, which is basically so reflective that it is a mirror. We assume that the name & # 39; Black Mirror & # 39; could not be used.
The exact dimensions of the phone were not specified in our briefing, but the 6.47-inch OLED screen fits snugly into the front of the phone with a small teardrop notch for the camera.
It's interesting to hear that Huawei called the snippet "pretty" when we were told in previous briefings how the idea of punch-hole selfie-cam is the future … at least that's Huawei's sister company Honor said we have the same design team.
The overall quality of the screen quality is, although because it is "only" Full HD, you get a very impressive picture. The peak brightness occasionally baffles, with a bright sunset emanating from a dark scene. However, we are not sure if there is HDR support on the screen, so we want to catch up soon.
If you expect vivid OLED technology here, you should simply stop clicking. & # 39; Pre-order now until you see the muted, natural colors of the display on the P30 Pro. It's certainly not an issue, but you should take a personal look.
The design of the Huawei P30 Pro is not staggering, though the screen tapers and curves into the sides of a fairly thick aluminum band that runs around the outside of the device.
This volume contains the USB-C port (but unfortunately no headphone jack, unlike the P30 "normal"), as well as the single mono speaker with the trigger facing down. It feels a little old-fashioned to have no stereo speaker setup, but there is no conventional speaker to answer calls – the screen itself vibrates with a technology called a magnetic levitation train.
The output of the speaker is just fine – It's not the best we've ever heard, but for a single option it's better than expected in terms of the volume and clarity of the music being pumped out.
The camera array sits proudly on the back of the phone and pulls the camera together four sensors that can create a rather crooked feel when they are on the table; But the volume and the on / off button sit well when the thumb falls on the right side of the phone.
The great feature that Huawei has been keeping us busy for so long is the new P30 Pro camera system, which we claim will completely rethink smartphone photography. The main thrust is for the super-spectrum sensor, a 40-megapixel sensor that can produce light at ridiculously high levels of ISO light and has a 1: 1.6 lens for high quality night shots.
The SuperSpectrum sensor is the feature that Huawei sells most here: in a standard RGB sensor, it replaces each of the green pixels with two yellow pixels, allowing the sensor to retrieve more light and color information an improved ability to absorb red and green light.
When combined with Huawei's (AI) intelligent art photography, the results should be impressive. This is flanked by a 5x telephoto camera (a power achieved by rotating the phone's 90-degree light to give more room to reflect the image) and a time-of-flight image sensor (for better background blur) ) and an ultra wide mode with a 20 MP sensor.

The Huawei P30 Pro also has a 10x lossless zoom, claims the brand thanks to some built-in AI intelligence – and uses this feature to provide a 50x digital zoom, for example, to take a picture of the moon, if he does something nice, or just look at a poster near a demo area. Just not, for example, that we do that.
How does the camera of the Huawei P30 Pro work? Pretty good. Indoor and outdoor shots look clean and fast, but show the same sharpness that Huawei phones seem to offer – it's up to you to see if this is a daring feature or not.
The background blur on photos looks good too. Although the shutter lag was quite pronounced – in fact, most of the photos we took looked at the Huawei P30 Pro with the request to hold the picture after the shot was taken to sharpen the pictures in AI mode.

The night mode was not impressive, but if anything is possible In a test area you are wrapped in a curtain, it is hardly the most scientific test.
However, we noticed that the iPhone XS Max created a night image similar to the P30 Pro. We therefore do not expect the new phone to interfere with the dominance of Google Pixel 3 in the low-light market. Image 1 of 2

Switching to the f / 3.4 zoom lens lets you see the difference in quality
The selfie camera is more powerful – more powerful as necessary, some could argue – at 32 MP and makes a strong picture.
There is a Smile mode to take a snapshot, but we found that we had to smile really broadly to have the chance that the feature would work – unless we were dulled only by the press room ,
However, it is in the zoom department that the Huawei P30 Pro is really outstanding. The 5X telephoto zoom and 10X magnification work incredibly well (though not so much at night), and focusing on a small poster across the street showed that the 50x zoom did indeed deliver sharp, crisp photos.
Huawei's AI game is currently strong, internal smarts are used to improve the quality of the photos. This is generally done here as well, of course.
In a month or two, when an update is released, you can even record a video with a small window that enlarges the action. We can not see why you really want this. It's not a launch feature, it's the end of the world.
The battery life of the Huawei P30 Pro was not disclosed by the brand It revealed an improved power supply inside the phone, which offers a power of 4200 mAh.
Knowing that Huawei offers great battery management capabilities, we expect this internal juice box to carry around well for at least one single day.
However, if the levels drop slightly before you can stop working, the 40W fast-charging Huawei P30 Pro means you can get up to 70% of power in just 30 minutes, which is pretty incredible
also a fast wireless charging of 15 W and the ability to charge another phone or a pair of wirelessly powered headphones h a reverse wireless power supply. We really live in the future.
How is it to be used?
The Huawei P30 Pro uses EMUI 9.1, a Kirin 980 chipset, and a countless amount of RAM no, literally, they have not told us what it is. We're assuming about 8GB, but like the internal memory, there's no idea what's being offered – though we expect the memory for a brand like Huawei to start at 128GB.
The browsing speed around the Huawei P30 is very similar You would expect a modern smartphone. There is a clear fluidity under the fingers, and the lightning-fast connectivity responses in our test impressed us when we broke TechRadar.
EMUI 9.1, the latest version of Huawei overlays for Android, is less onerous than it used to be in earlier times, with Google integration for Western versions of this phone on the left screen. There are also fewer messages to navigate everywhere, and the Huawei P30 Pro, coupled with the fast innards and clear screen, is great for guiding you through everyday tasks.
There are still confusing and somewhat annoying bugs in the system, such as the AI video editor, which can edit clips without input – we could not find that anywhere on the camera screen.
It's also not as fluid as the iPhone XS or the Samsung Galaxy S10, with some elements of EMUI that still feel a bit too complex and too many choices and adjustments. However, compare it to a Huawei mobile phone that is only five years old and you will notice a massive change in how the UI works.
The Huawei P30 Pro is one of the strongest phones the brand has ever produced, but the upgrades are a bit more incremental this year.
The new colors glow beautifully, the teardrop notch on the screen is not too intrusive, and the camera system offers this at least something else, it's still to a lesser extent.
The speed under the fingers is a nice touch, but we look forward to testing the real differences between the Huawei P30 Pro and last year's Mate 20 Pro or the Huawei P20 Pro, to see how much is really changing Has.
