Adam Sandler’s latest film Hubie Halloween landed on Netflix on October 7th and is already being killed in the viewing department.
After the success of Crime thriller With Jennifer Aniston, Netflix extended Sandler’s contract for four more films. His films are hugely popular on the streamer, attracting A-list talent and surprise cameos in the cast. However, a local news anchor just lost her job after appearing in the film.
Alaina Pinto made a guest appearance on ‘Hubie Halloween’
Set in Salem, Massachusetts, Hubie Halloween uses the first 15 minutes to introduce Sandler’s character and the city’s quirky holiday spirit.
In these first scenes, a short news bulletin from a fictional Boston news channel appears on the television screen. Three anchors for Channel 4’s Wake Up Boston are dressed as Harley Quinn.
The real-life host, Alaina Pinto, appeared as one of the newscasters – Erin – who wore Harley Quinn makeup and hair. Pinto’s character sits behind the desk and scolds her colleagues about wearing the same costume, but she didn’t swear or make lewd gestures. It only took a few seconds and it had an impact on Pinto’s career.

Pinto fired from the Boston news network
On October 15, Pinto posted a series of tweets indicating that she was fired from WHDH Channel 7 in Boston for her role in the film. However, she is not a disgruntled employee. Pinto admitted that she made a small cameo for last year Hubie Halloween and accidentally violate their employment contract with WHDH.
Pinto explained that it was an oversight on their part, and wrote: “I mistakenly violated my contract with the station and I understand why management unfortunately terminated me. I am deeply disappointed and sad and hoped things wouldn’t turn out that way. “
She also thanked her colleagues and viewers for their support. “It was an honor and a privilege to bring you the news every morning. I promise to keep in touch and keep you updated on the next chapter – the future is bright! “Pinto wrote.
She joined the Boston Channel 7 team in 2016 and previously worked on a Vermont station.
Pinto moves forward
The earlier morning anchor presses further, but some fans believe the news channel may have overreacted. Pinto also posted the note on her Instagram account, and followers have expressed that they are stunned by the firing.
Many wished her well, and others tagged Adam Sandler in the hope that he could intervene. Emmy award-winning radio host Billy Costa urged her to reach out to someone at Boston’s WCVB for a new opportunity. So far, WHDH has not commented on the matter.
According to Forbes Hubie Halloween is well on its way to breaking one of Netflix’s “Top 10” records in the comedy genre. If it sticks to its first spot, it will be the longest series for a comedy on the streamer.
Depending on how the rest of the month goes for the movie, there is a chance it could become the top comedy on Netflix for the year.
