A Banksy work, a revised version of a masterpiece by Claude Monet, could reach a price of up to five million pounds or 1.9 billion forints at Sotheby’s auction house’s October auction. The British street performer created Show me the Monet in 2005 by grabbing canvas and oil paintings.
The original work shows the wooden bridge that meandered across the pond in the garden of the French impressionist painter Giverny. In the Banksy version, the idyll is disturbed by the fact that two shopping carts and an orange-colored street sign buoy protrude from the garden pond between the water lilies, writes MTI. Experts estimate Show me the Monet’s knockdown price at £ 3-5 million.
Last October in London one of Banksy’s most famous and greatest paintings of chimpanzees populating the House of Commons of the UK Legislature sold for a record £ 9.9 million, exceeding the artist’s expectations.
