    Hurricane Miriam has jumped into the Central Pacific, just a Category 1 hurricane

    The Central Pacific Hurricane Center says the storm is not a threat to the country.

    Miriam's center is approximately 1,230 miles east-southeast of Honolulu, heading west at about 8 miles per hour.

    Tropical Storm Miriam grew stronger than expected overnight and is likely to later cross into the Central Pacific.
