Hypothesis suggests poisonous flowers help extinguish dinosaurs: Here are some unusual old ideas about dinosaur extinction

Was the extinction of the dinosaurs partly due to flowers? New research suggests that their toxic meals were partly the reason why the asteroid that caused dinosaur extinction was so successful at wiping them out.

It's hard to say what made the dinosaur die out, but there are many theories about it, some unusual.

Biotic Revenge Hypothesis

The Biotic Revenge Hypothesis was the main theme of a new study published in the journal Ideas on Ecology and Evolution. The hypothesis suggests that ancient plants are partly responsible for the dinosaur outflow. Obviously, even after the increase in toxic angiosperms, the dinosaurs still eat the plants because they have not yet developed a taste reluctance and because they must continue to consume large amounts of plants to meet their energy needs. Unfortunately, their lack of aversion to taste caused the creatures to eat deadly amounts of poisonous plants.

That does not mean that the theory suggests that dinosaurs were not extinct by a massive asteroid. In fact, it supports the current theory, but the hypothesis simply suggests that by the time the asteroid hit, the herbivores were already decaying because of their venomous meals, and as such, carnivores were also shrinking in numbers. 1

9659003] The hypothesis may sound quite unusual to some, but there are other hypotheses about dinosaur extinction that are also very interesting. Unlike the new hypothesis, however, many of them have already been rejected and debunked.

Caterpillar Devastation

It seems rather unusual to blame caterpillars for the extinction of dinosaurs, but a paper suggested by entomologist Stanley Flanders in 1962 indicated caterpillars devastated the chalk vegetation and starved the herbivores. As the herbivores slowly launched, the robbers could eat each other.

However, butterflies and moths actually lived with dinosaurs for millions of years, and there is no evidence of a caterpillar tip in the fossils.

Blind Dinosaurs

1982 Ophthalmologist LR Croft suggested that dinosaurs with horns and crests developed the features to protect their eyes from the sun. However, as the sun was still too hard at that time, the horns still were not enough to protect their eyes, and the creatures began to go blind before they reached sexual maturity.

As interesting as the hypothesis is It does not explain the mass extinction of other dinosaur species.

They Eat Their Eggs

The paleontologist George Wieland of the twentieth century once argued that the dinosaurs loved eggs and that even some dinosaur mothers could not protect their cubs. However, his 1925 hypothesis of how dinosaurs threatened extinction was not substantiated by fossils showing that snakes and dinosaurs actually ate eggs and dinosaur cubs, but not so much that they caused their own mass extinction. 19659004] Dumb dinosaurs?

In the 1900s, there was a belief that the dinosaurs might have had an evolutionary inertia that made them ever larger, but less adaptable to the changing environment. In addition, they were thought to be less intelligent than mammals, as their evolution was solely aimed at getting bigger and sharper.

However, this does not explain why several massive dinosaur species thrived for quite a long time.
