San Diego, USA – After these annoying, repetitive World Cup ads, it may well be you're all Hyundai (and Maroon 5 & d; d), but the Korean carmaker has gotten back some cool: one from Iron Man Inspired Kona
"My armor is manoeuvrable, fast and fun at parties," said Iron Man's alter ego Tony Stark, and in a strong-like fashion, Hyundai unveiled the Kona SUV special for the opening of the San Diego Comic this week ̵
The Kona Iron Man Edition is the showpiece of the Marvel stand, with enhancements to the exterior and interior trim that add a visual touch to the Iron Man suit. The coolest part is that it's not just a concept, but will be available to customers in limited global production.
Production of the vehicle is expected to start in December, the first units will be available in the first quarter of 2019. For more information visit www.KonaIronManEdition.com
"There is a nice synergy between the fun and adventurous nature of the Kona and the playful but bold character of Iron Man / Tony Stark," said Dean Evans, marketing director of Hyundai Motor America. "The result is a remarkable special edition that's sure to suit Marvel fans as well as SUV fans."
"Seeing this car come to life is like a wish fulfillment for so many of us," said Mindy Hamilton, Marvel's SVP of Global Partnerships & Marketing. "When you grow up with comics, you dream of seeing this technology and these inventions become reality, we hope everyone will enjoy jumping in this unique vehicle as they would put on the Iron Man armor!"
On the outside, the Kona Iron Man Edition has a unique front light signature, including a custom daytime running light shape that is very similar to the face mask and eye shape of the Iron Man suit. Other Stark-style embellishments include a rooftop Iron Man mask motif, a unique V-shaped bonnet, front Fender Iron Man mask, Stark Industries lower bezel and rear door panels, Iron Man-engraved headlamp inner surfaces, Custom 18 "Alloy Wheels with Iron Man Mask caps, an Iron Man engraving for the D-pillars and a dark chrome front grille. The exterior color is an exclusive Iron Man red with matte gray.
Inside, the signature of Tony Stark adorns the instrument panel alongside a unique Iron Man gear knob, a special Head Up Display and Center Stack with Iron Man graphics and a custom seat design.
Hyundai recently announced that it will launch the Kona compact SUV in South Africa later this year. The Kona has edgy, futuristic styling that goes beyond the normal SUV shape, and will rank alongside the slightly larger and more conservative Creta in the market segment.
It is not yet known which derivatives in the SA, but overseas the Kona lead initially available in a choice of three gasoline engines: a three-cylinder 1.0-liter turbo with powers of 88kW and 172Nm, a normally aspirated 2-liter (110kW and 180Nm), and a four-cylinder 1.6 Turbo (130kW and 265Nm). Later this year, a turbo diesel and an electric version will be added.
And before you ask, it's still too early to say if South African buyers will be able to order their Kona in Iron Man specification.
