David Gaider is best known for his writing on sprawling role-playing games like the Dragon Age series. Now he's working on a new kind of game: an interactive musical called Chorus.
Gaider's new company Summerfall Studios today launched a crowdfunding campaign for Chorus via fig. In the lavishly painted trailer for Chorus a young woman named Grace is given the song by a dying one Friend. But mysterious musical gods demand a prize. She and her bandmates fight against the plans of the gods. Grace is voiced by Laura Bailey, who appeared in several games, including Gears 5 Persona 4 and World of Warcraft .
In the trailer Gaider says, "We wanted to make a musical, a game with a focus on characters and history, where the big moments in the song happen and the player decides where the song goes. It felt completely new, a really fresh version of storytelling.
The Chorus Campaign Page shows how the game's basic structure works. It states, "Your decisions will influence the results: strong arm, charm or negotiation through a world of ramified songs … The choices you make during the songs not only affect the lyrics, but also the musical direction of the song." "During important parts of the game, Grace had the power to make people sing," says Summerfall CEO Liam Esler. "You make decisions during the song, just like in dialogue. But here you are trying to build a river that will change the world at the end of the song.
Esler's earlier experience includes production work on Beamdogs Baldur's Gate: Siege of Dragon Spear and organization of gaming events. Music for Chorus is written by Austin Wintory ( Journey, The Banner Saga ) with the voice actor Troy Baker ( The Last of Us Bioshock Infinite ) take the language direction. Benjamin Ee takes care of the art direction.
Gaider worked at BioWare for 17 years before leaving in 2016. Before he founded Summerfall, he worked for Beamdog. Chorus & # 39; Fig campaign seeks $ 600,000. There is no information available on release date or platforms. However, we are fascinated by this game and will keep you up to date.
