Indian student due to 10-year jail for computer damage

A 27-year-old Indian student named Vishwanath Akuthota has been living in New York for a long time with a student visa. He was found guilty of intentionally causing damage to more than 50 computers in a college. The total damage was USD 58,000. The incident occurred in the state of New York, Albany, and the damage was caused by the insertion of a "USB killer" device.

He was arrested in North Carolina and has been detained since February 2019. Vishwanath is imprisoned for up to 10 years from August and fined USD 2.50,000 and imprisoned for up to three years.

The student was guilty of damaging computers at The Collge of St. Rose, US lawyer Grant Jaquith. It is reported that the student deliberately used a USB killer in 66 computers, and the device sends a command that causes the internal capacitors of the PC to quickly charge and discharge in a loop.

This in turn leads to an overload of capacity and destruction of the USB port and the electrical system of the computer. Vishwanath purposely caused the damage while recording himself with his iPhone. He was also heard saying "I'm going to kill this guy" in the video.
