Infinitis new electric roadster has exactly one seat – BGR

With crossover and SUVs dominating car sales these days, it's clear that many people simply do not believe that a traditional sedan has enough space for all their … stuff. On the whole, cars are almost as big as they used to be. Huge beasts from many decades have been replaced by compact models, but now the trend seems to be "the bigger, the better".

Infinitis brand new full-electric roadster prototype – fittingly Prototype 10 – goes in the opposite direction. And by contrast, I mean that it basically has no interior at all. It is a four-wheeled electric rocket built exclusively for the enjoyment of driving.

"The INFINITI Prototype 1

0 reflects the layout and design of some of the most formidable car designs of all time, where power was celebrated by high-performance single-seat competition vehicles," said Karim Habib, executive design director at Infiniti, in a statement. "Our new concept speaks of an electrified future reflected in form and detail, and it is fitting that we were inspired by an optimistic era in which cars were characterized by a simple love of driving."

As a prototype, the car does nothing but look cool, and it makes this performance easy. It really looks like the natural evolution of an old racing car from the 1950s. The fact that it is purely electric is a nice touch, and also allows the front end of the vehicle to be shaped like a ball, as opposed to a gaping gullet with a radiator hidden behind it.

Unfortunately, as you stare awestruck at the shiny new roadster, you have to keep reminding yourself that it's really just a prototype. Infiniti will not produce that, and you'll never see one of those things that cross on your local boulevard. Nonetheless, Infiniti notes that the new concept has "pointers to future design elements for the brand," which looks like good news if you like cool-looking cars.

The INFINITI Prototype 10 bridges the spirit of early Speedsters for an era of electrified performance.
