TEHRAN, Iran (AP) – Iran's Supreme Leader accuses the US and its allies of stirring up unrest in Iran
State TV Sunday quoted Ayatollah Ali Khamenei as saying the US had formed a coalition with other regional countries unable to defeat Iran.
Khamenei did not name any specific nations in the so-called coalition, but claimed that there was economic pressure on Iran to "separate the nation from the system."
He says, "If the US could overpower the Islamic system, it would not have needed a coalition with notorious countries in the region to create chaos, unrest and insecurity in Iran. "
Last week, online videos showed police officers firing tear gas at demonstrators upset with the Iranian crater economy. It was the first such confrontation after similar demonstrations that shook the country earlier this year.
