Alesha MacPhail remembered in emotional birthday vigil, as her mother wished

Alesha MacPhail's mother wished she could see her daughter's "beautiful face" when she celebrated her eighth birthday.

Georgina Lochrane spoke days before friends and family of the murdered schoolgirl encountered an emotional balloon vigil in her hometown Airdrie in Scotland.

Dozens of people gathered in a park near a pink bank in their memory on Sunday night, according to the Daily Record.

The gathering sang songs, including Thinking Out Loud by Ed Sheeran.

The bereaved mother Georgina, 24, previously told how she will sing Happy Birthday each year at her tomb to mark the milestone.

Alesha's family and friends attended a vigil in a park in Airdrie.

Alesha was just six years old when she died on the Isle of Bute just so long as we can stay up there with her.

"Alesha was supposed to be here to celebrate her birthday without having a picket in her memory. But as long as I live on this earth, Alesha will never be forgotten and I doubt that her sister will allow it after I leave.

"This week, I just wanted her little beautiful face to bounce into the living room and most likely give me the last changes to her birthday presents or ask her if she's getting a birthday cake.

"I know it was just a year, but it feels honest as forever since I last saw her face, heard her voice and cuddled her.

"I sit and think about how much she would have changed during the year and how grown-up she would be now."
