JERUSALEM – The Israeli military says more than 25 mortar shells have been fired from Gaza on communities in southern Israel. No one was injured in the barrage.
The military says most were intercepted Tuesday by the Iron Dome defense system.
But the amount of mortar seems to be the largest that has been fired in a single incident since 201
The border area has been tense in recent weeks as the Palestinians held mass protests to lift a blockade of Israel and Egypt after the Hamas takeover in 2007.
Israeli fire killed more than 110 Palestinians, most of them during Hamas-led protests peaking on May 14th.
