“The message that Kat Bogen is sending right now is that many of the things people are fighting against – white supremacy, exploitation of workers and poor people, transphobia and homophobia, and rhetoric against immigrants and guidelines, to name a few to mention – are only disagreements that are worth agreeing in the name of romance, disagreeing with. Aisha Dee agrees with the fans of ‘The Bold Type’
In her new Instagram post, Dee referred to Kat’s new relationship and explained that she disagreed with Kat’s decisions while filming.
In the photo, Dee wrote:
“The decision to put Kat in a relationship with a privileged conservative woman was confusing and atypical. Despite my personal feelings about the choice, I tried my best to tell the story honestly, although the Kat I know and love would never make these decisions. It was heartbreaking to see how Kat’s story turned into a story of salvation for someone else who is complicit in the oppression of so many. Someone whose policies are actively harmful to their communities.
“I am critical because I am interested, because I have seen the incredible impact of this show firsthand and I believe in its potential to get better. The bold guy has done so much good, but it is difficult for him to understand the intersections where many of his characters live.
The truth is that these topics are not exclusive The bold guy. The entertainment industry has been doing this since its inception. ”
The actress also criticized the show’s lack of diversity
Dee not only criticized the writing of her character, but also took a risk and made the show aware of its lack of diversity behind the camera.
“It took two seasons for a single BIPOC to be in the author’s room The bold guy. And even then, the responsibility to speak for the entire black experience cannot and should not fall on one person.
We need to tell a story about a strange black woman and a lesbian Muslim woman who fall in love, but there were never strange black or Muslim writers in the room.
In four seasons (48 episodes), a black woman made two episodes. “
According to her contribution Freeform, Universal TV and producers of The bold guy published their own statement and wrote:
“We welcome Aisha for raising her hand and starting discussions on these important issues. We look forward to continuing this dialogue and making positive changes. Our goal The bold guy is and always has been to tell entertaining, authentic stories that are representative of the world in which Kat, Jane and Sutton live – we can only do that if we listen. ”
The finale of season 4 of The bold guy will air on Freeform at 10 p.m. EST on July 16.
