The accident happened a few meters before the finish line of the Katowice stage. At the end of the long sprint, Jumbo-Visma’s compatriot Dylan Groenewegen pushed him against the barriers and let him slam hard. The accident caused the fall of a dozen sprint cyclists, including Groenewegen himself, who was disqualified. The UCI – the international cycling union – also issued a statement condemning their behavior and announcing other disciplinary measures against them.
