The rumors spread over the last few days find a first important confirmation: TIM would have official sales guidelines to retailers on the peninsula and distributed eSIM installation the iPhone (here you can read our detailed article on the subject). Before we leave the house to harass traders, we note that the starting date of the service is not yet known, even though it is imminent given the given situation .
At the end of the article you can see what a facsimile of the new eSIM TIM looks like, the similarity with the current graphics of traditional SIMs is almost complete, except that the QR code instead of the physical one Card available . The latter seems to be of fundamental importance both for the initial installation as well as for a later review, so that a duplicate (for a fee) must be requested in case of loss.
As you can see in the picture on the back of the card all identification codes: serial ICCID, NMU (the first eSIM should start for R014), PIN, PUK and phone number associated with the card. As mentioned earlier, the cost of the new virtual cards will still be EUR 10 for new customers for those wishing to switch from a conventional SIM card to EUR 15.
Supported Smartphones It seems that there are only iPhones of the last two generations which are the various iPhone 11/11 Pro / 11 Pro Max and iPhone XS / XS Max / XR, all equipped with Nano SIM slots and eSIM. After purchasing the new eSIM, you must proceed with the initial configuration . Go to Settings> Mobile> Add mobile plan, scan the QR code and accept the confirmation pop-up to start the installation.

A faster alternative method is to scan the QR code directly to the phone's camera and follow the procedure. Obviously, it is necessary for the operation to have the phone connected to a Wi-Fi network to download the operator profile. Once activated, iPhone allows only one of the two for full traffic connectivity even if a traditional SIM card is present, while the other is only used for phone calls and text messages.
The different operator profiles – if more than one can be activated – are displayed in the section Mobile Plans. From here you can manage the various settings and possibly activate a new one. In each case only one profile can be activated at a time . If you want to use your own number on another smartphone, you must delete the profile from the previous phone. This last operation should always be performed if the device is connected to a Wi-Fi network, otherwise the profile will remain locked .
