BEIJING – Jack Ma, the Chinese tech billionaire pleading for a 12-hour work day, sees a future in which people only have to work 12 hours a day Week.
Founder of e-commerce giant Alibaba said on Thursday that technological advances would allow people to live longer hours and hours.
"People are worried about every technological revolution. For the last 200 years, we've been worried [that] that the new technology will take away all jobs, "he said Thursday in a discussion in Shanghai with Tesla's billionaire founder Elon Musk. Tesla is building an electric vehicle factory in the city, and the two were there on the stage of the World Artificial Intelligence Conference.
Ma had previously argued that he had endorsed the "996" work practices prevalent in the Chinese technology industry, according to which employees are expected to work six days a week from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm.
Commenting earlier this year, Ma said that the opportunity to work such hours is a "blessing," and that without this kind of work culture, China's economy would "most likely lose vitality and momentum."
Culture was for loafers. Richard Liu, managing director of competing e-commerce company JD.com, said he works with "8116 + 8" – or 8-23. Monday to Saturday, then only eight hours on Sunday. Billionaire Jack Ma, who used to advocate long hours, says we will have many jobs in the future, but "we do not need many jobs". as life could increase.

But when Ma spoke to Musk on Thursday, she said so In the future, people could enjoy a much shorter work week.
"In the next 20 to 30 years, people will live much longer. Life science technology will probably make people 100 or 120 years old, "he said. "That may not be a good thing because you're making sure your grandfather's grandfather is still working hard."
But it did not matter, he said, since the world would not need a lot of jobs.
"I think people should work three days a week, four hours a day," he quoted earlier technology leaps like the Industrial Revolution and the use of electricity to improve the work-life balance.
"The power of electricity is that we give people more time so they can go to karaoke in the evenings and dance parties in the evenings."
"I think because of artificial intelligence people will have more time To be human. I do not think we'll need a lot of jobs, "Ma said to Musk. "The jobs we need are [ones to] making people happier. People experience life, enjoy [being] people. "

China's Internet users were unimpressed.
"Ma said earlier that 996 was a blessing. How can he now say that people work three days a week, four hours a day and go to karaoke or dance parties in the evening? "Asked a person who nicknamed" Be a friend daily with Weibo "on Weibo, the Chinese version of Twitter.
"He used to speak 996 in Chinese. That's for us. This time he said "three days a week, four hours a day" in English. That's for foreigners. "
Another, using the name" soda water, "used a Chinese saying that means two things do not fit together:" Musk will find that dialogue looks like he's putting the lips of a donkey on his mouth to lay a horse.
