Jada Pinkett Smith followed her promise to get herself to the red table.
In a surprising episode, Pinkett Smith sat down with her husband Will Smith to address recent rumors about the status of their relationship.
R&B singer August Alsina caused controversy on June 30 when he said in an interview with radio host Angela Yee that he was romantically connected to Pinkett Smith. Alsina added that Smith had given them his blessing.
On July 2, Pinkett Smith tweeted, “Something needs to be healed … so I’ll take myself to the red table.”
In the wake of the Facebook Watch series, the couple revealed that Pinkett Smith and Alsina had a romantic relationship four and a half years ago when Pinkett Smith and Smith separated.
“We were over,”
However, both denied that Smith had given Alsina permission to enter the relationship.
“One of the things I wanted to clarify that was spinning around in the press was that you were giving permission. The only person who can give permission under these special circumstances is myself,” said Pinkett Smith. “But what August was actually trying to communicate – because I could actually see how he would perceive it as permission, because we were separated on a friendly basis – I think he also wanted to make it clear that he is not a home winger, which he is not.”
Pinkett Smith said she was out of a desire to feel good and help him get into the relationship with Alsina, but discovered that she needed to find happiness in herself first. After she ended her relationship with Alsina, she and Smith came back together.
“I would definitely say that we tried everything we could to get away from each other only to realize that this was not possible,” said Pinkett Smith, adding that she and Alsina have not spoken since they separated.
The Smiths have been married since 1997 and have two children together, Jaden and Willow.
