The move is not entirely unexpected as Gunn has already written the follow-up script that Warner Bros. had just released for publication in August 2021.

Gunn, who was fired from the third installment in his Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, is in negotiations to reroute the second Suicide Squad movie, the successor to the Warner Bros. 2016 hit, the DC Comics called anti-hero as the lead actor.
The move is not entirely unexpected, as Gunn already wrote the script for the sequel, Warner Bros. was just released for publication in August 2021.
However, the dealmaking solidifies that the new Suicide Squad film will be his next directing effort. Disney fired Gunn from his Marvel franchise in July, after old tweets from the years 2008 and 2009 reappeared in which he made insensitive and controversial jokes.

According to sources, Gunn should focus on choosing the franchise in a new direction with a mostly new cast of characters and actors. Sources also say that the project is also very much rooted in Gunn's Vibe, as seen in the Guardian's films.
Charles Roven and Peter Safran will produce the feature. Zack Snyder and Deborah Snyder act as executive producers.
Gunn is renewed by UTA, the Safran Company and Frankfurt Kurnit.
