Jason Chaffetz: US women's football star Megan Rapinoe misses a great opportunity to bring our country together

During a nerve-wracking scene in "Miracle," the best amateur hockey players across the country are pushed to the edge of their physical limits, stubbornly and repeatedly failing to realize that they no longer play for their individual college teams.

The head coach has to show stubborn determination to wake up the players they now play for Team USA. It's a pithy, emotional scene that ultimately captures one of the most patriotic sporting moments it has ever brought to the screen.

It can be inspiring when Team USA team up to do their best while the country and the team come first.

US WOMEN'S SOCCER STAR MEGAN RAPINOE SAYS IT DOES NOT GO TO THE F-ING WHITE HOUSE

Fast forward to the women's football team USA team; A talented mix of players of all ages, socioeconomic backgrounds, races and sexual orientation. You know, Americans. They win a lot of games while fans swing American flags in the stands and little kids dream of playing in the same field in red, white and blue.

Then there's Megan Rapinoe. She is co-captain for Team USA. As you might expect, Rapinoe is arguably one of the best football players in the world. She won the World Cup and is Olympic champion. Nike and Samsung sponsor her. How talented is she? Ask her, "Because I'm so talented that I can be here, you can not tell me if I can be here or not," she said in a recent interview.

If she is not, she plays football and campaigns for LGBT issues. She also served on a round table for Hillary Clinton. Good for you.

She also does not like President Trump and seems anxious to tell us all her feelings about it. She has already announced that she would refuse to visit the White House if requested to do so.

Until the US team realized that all the players needed for the anthem were ready to take a knee. Now she stands but refuses to put her hand over her heart or sing along with her teammates. Their actions cause fans to boycott when they see the team play.

What a missed opportunity.

Our national anthem is a song about the advocacy of freedom despite adversity. When the bombs burst in the air, the flag remains strong and gives hope and optimism that victory and freedom will win the day.

Captain Rapinoe has the opportunity to be a role model for all Americans, not just those who agree. She and she alone decided to wear the uniform and represent us all.

How about just kicking, winning and enjoying it? That's an American thing. Encourages us all to enjoy the experience together with you. It connects us. People of different backgrounds and political persuasions, including me, are proud of their achievements in the field and want the same freedoms and opportunities for you, your teammates and those who support your concerns.

Visit the White House with enthusiasm, if given the chance; It is the center of Earth's largest nation, which has helped liberate more people around the world and extend the rights of more people than ever before.
