Jets release Luke Falk and leave QB, which was signed last week as Sam Darnold's backup against Cowboys

Sam Darnold is officially back for the New York Jets and just in time to try to upset the visiting Dallas Cowboys in Week 6 In the last three games, substitute quarterback Trevor Siemian has been called to star first.

Siemian suffered a severe ankle injury in his first season opener in 2019 and ended up in an injured reserve. With that he finished his season and pushed Luke Falk to the spotlight. The former team from the sixth round was looking forward to the opportunity to prove themselves ̵

1; at least – as a capable NFL team, but could not achieve this goal. After making a solid showing for Siemian in Week 2 against Cleveland Browns, he went 2-0 in the final two games, scoring just 218 passes and no touchdowns, but three interceptions.

He was now fired from The Jets – the team announced – ended an eventful but shortened stay that began when the team accused him of the waiver in May. That leaves David Fales, who signed with the jets last week, as Darnold's backup for Sunday, but not necessarily much longer. Coach Adam Gase said earlier this week that the team according to Rich Cimini of ESPN, could bring a more experienced support behind Darnold.

The release of Falk makes way for linebacker Brandon Copeland, who returns after a four-time suspension due to a PED violation.

Copeland is a former undrafted free agent of the Baltimore Ravens, who spent a brief period with Tennessee Titans and Detroit Lions before moving to the Jets in 2018 – one that became a breakout season for the late-flowering 28-year-old. Copeland scored career highs in 10 launches with tackles (35) and sacks (5) last season and is a key piece for Jets' future linebacker corps. With C.J. Mosley struggled with a groin injury that could kill him against the Cowboys, and they could certainly use Copeland's help.
