If the Cardinals do not take quarterback Kyler Murray, the 49ers have the opportunity to swap the right to convene him. G.M. John Lynch expected the phone to ring when Murray checked for Pick No. 1 is actually on the board.
"I would, I would," Lynch said, assuming he was heard by several teams. "Would not you? I think there seems to be a lot of interest. And I understand, we threw him up here a couple of times. It's electrical stuff, that's really it. Had some nightmares nearby, not myself pursuing him, but whether we were following him when it fell. He is pretty special.
One way to avoid these nightmares would be to recruit Murray, of course. But given the presence of Jimmy Garoppolo in the squad this would lead to a series of other nightmares.
Then the 49ers Garoppolo could return to the Patriots again and again, when Tom Brady retires after the 2019 season, joking about all that. I think so.
