Jonah Hill learns how to rebuild his self-esteem.
The 34-year-old actor started in showbiz when he was young, making him vulnerable to public criticism of his body. Hill said that for the first time during his directorial debut, he considered Mid90s which is about a 13-year-old boy trying to adapt.
While working on the film, Hill compiled a journal called Inner Children in which he wrote about his body image problems over the years
"I became famous in my late teens and then spent For most of my life with young adults people say that I was fat and crude and unattractive, and it's only in the last four years that I've written and directed my film, Mid90s, that I've started to Understand how much that hurt me and shot me in the head, "he read in the magazine Ellen DeGeneres Show on Friday
Hill writes in Inner Children that he does so for a universal experience.
"I really believe that everyone has a snapshot of themselves from a time they were young, for whom they are ashamed," he read. "For me, it's the 1
Hill told host Ellen DeGeneres that he thinks this feeling stays with you, regardless of later success.
"I think everyone has a version of themselves … at some point in your life the person you are trying to hide from the world," he said. "Even if you succeed or grow up or you look good or whatever, the things that you think will fix the thing are part of it."
But exploring these topics in the journal while working on Mid90s helped Hill process his emotions.
"What I found amazing at [the magazine] is that it was really a counterpart to writing and conducting Mid90s Because For me, this film is about learning to love and to find a community of people who accept you and how imperfect life is, "he said. "It took a long time, honestly, until now, that as a kind of person, artist, spirit, what I represent, how I feel, how I want to be addressed, how I speak, come out the world in a way that in fact, it portrays who I am as a person, as opposed to me, who tries to be something else that I am not. "
DeGeneres added that she understands exactly how Hill feels, especially as someone who also works in Hollywood.
"We enter this business – especially actors and actresses – especially in search of approval, in search of love, to fill a void and become other people, to avoid being exact who we are, "said DeGeneres, 60." Many people stick in this role rather than just knowing who you are, it's very cool that you've found who you are and love who you are because you're one I am glad that you love yourself! "
" I am under construction as we are all, "Hill tells her.
