The Lago Vista School District has canceled classes for the remainder of the week due to rising numbers District officials announced Wednesday.
The district did not say how many students had fallen ill, which led to the cancellation.
"This closure will help reduce the spread of the influenza virus by ensuring that the infected are affected to stay home," the district said in a letter to parents.
Custodian staff are spending additional hours sanitizing the four districts of northwest Travis County and its buses, the district says.
All activities around the school, including those taking place in the evening, will continue at the discretion of the sponsor of the activity, officials said. The two days do not have to be made up, the district said.
