MIAMI BEACH, Fla. (AP) – Kanye West surprised fans with a tribute to the late rapper XXXTentacion during Art Basel. He jumped onto the stage and played a brand new song with West and the rapper who was shot in Florida earlier this year.

During the Thursday night release party for the first posthumous album "Skins" by XXXTentacion in RC Cola Plant, the entire album was played through first. When it played a second time, West came abruptly to the stage to play "One Minute," and the audience roared. An animated video for the song was also played in the background. West also briefly brought the late rapper-mother Cleopatra Bernard on stage.

Several other rappers, including Lil Wayne, Trippie Redd and PNB Rock, also praised the young rapper. Wayne gave an emotional performance of her song "Don & # 39; t Cry" and the crowd sang the part of XXXTentacion. Many in the audience were whiny.

The 20-year-old rap star, whose real name was Jahseh Onfroy, was fatally shot dead on his death in June a motorcycle shop. Officials said a fight ensued when the rapper's sports car was blocked by another vehicle, two masked gunmen approached and shot XXXTentacion (ex-ex-ex-ex-ten-ta-lake-yawn) several times. The gunmen fled with a $ 50,000 Louis Vuitton bag.

XXXTentacion, who wore dreadlocks and facial tattoos, was a rising star of platinum who tackled issues like prejudice and depression in his songs. He also criticized bad behavior and multiple arrests, including the charges that he had severely beaten and abused his girlfriend.

His music got a huge boost after his death.

His album was one of the five best streamed on Apple Music in 2018 and his song "Sad!" was the second most popular song on Spotify this year.

His manager Solomon Sobande described Thursday's album as a "triumphant" evening for longtime fans who consider "their hero" a "pop superstar" that he is.

Although it was "bittersweet," Sobande said it was "a reminder that his message, his music, everything he did not go nowhere went, but will live on.
