Kent officer killed after being beaten by patrol car in suspicious pursuit



A Kent police officer was killed after he was accidentally hit by another officer hunting a suspect in Kent early Sunday morning.

Just before 2 am, Kent police responded to the distress calls from Russell Rd. S and W Meeker St. officers in the area at the time heard the shots and noticed a red truck from the parking lot a sherry's restaurant. A witness who also saw the red truck indicated that the truck had possibly been involved, so officers followed the vehicle.

"They tried to stop and the vehicle fled in front of them and made attempts to stop them attracted Kent Police Commander Jarod Kasner

Kasner says officers chased the vehicle all the way to Kent Des Moines Rd., where officers spike strips at an intersection with an attempt to stop the truck.An officer holding the spike Was hit by a patrol car that was tracking the suspect vehicle.

At the scene, medical attempts were made to help the beaten officer, but he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The other officer in the patrol car was involved in a collision at the same time. He was also injured and transported to Harborview Medical Center, where he is in critical condition.

The fleeing red truck drove further east on Kent Des Moines Road, where it crashed near Washington Ave. A suspect was arrested and arrested. The police searched for two more suspects.

According to Kent police, the killed and killed officer was at the department for eight years.

According to Officer Down Memorial Page this is Kent's first police officer who has been killed on duty since 1908.
