Senators condemn the arrest of Kakamega Senator Malala

A section of legislators led by Siaya Senator James Orengo has condemned the continued detention of Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala as intimidating. Matungu is insecure in the Senate and may not be the one behind the murders.

According to Siaya Senator, the police have had no reason to arrest Malala for the entire weekend since he was arrested Friday.

Speech at the Central Police Station In Kisumu, where they pay a visit to the Senator of Kakamega, Orengo said that Malala should be released unconditionally.

"This is not the first time this has happened to Senator Malala. During the resistance movement, he was charged with a crime almost treacherous, and if you can remember, the thing did not go anywhere, even though he was detained for some time. We hope that this is not a continued persecution of Senator Malala … But we are ready to fight anything they will bring against him … "said Orengo.

Migori Sen. Ochilo Ayako said the police should have carried out their investigation rather than prosecute the senator in police cells, adding that the arrest was political.

"Someone is trying to make a political statement. Senator Malala is not a flight risk … so if you arrest him and hold him in a police station, you may be trying to misuse state power, "Senator Ochilo said.

Similar comments were made by the Senator of Homa Bay, Moses Kajwang.

"We hope this process does not turn into a circus, and we hope it does not lead to a better solution to political issues," Kajwang added.
