UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov is relieved that his long-time rival Conor McGregor will not be jailed for attacking his bus before UFC 223.
Now they can finally fight.
After McGregor (21-3 MMA, 9-1 UFC) met today an appeal deal that put him out of jail, Nurmagomedov (26-0 MMA, 10-0 UFC) keeps contact with MMAjunkie and called for a challenge for the former Two-Division Champion – and his crew (via Twitter ):
"It's good that he stayed out of jail because I could not punish him in this case, so now he's taking his Irish team to Madison Square Garden in November and finish our business. "
Shortly after the interview, Nurmagomedov insisted on ins tagram another challenge:
The planned date of Nurmagomedov falls a month after October 6 – UFC 229 – was rumored to be a showdown between Nurmagomedov and McGregor, who dropped the UFC track and field title, as Nurmagomedov Al Iaquinta at UFC 223.
A meeting in New York could be seen as closing for rivals after their close combat in April at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY Video recording while McGregor's bus melee showed Nurmagomedov being held back as a UFC star and his teammates swarming around the bus and threw several objects on it.
The incident was a retaliation for an earlier confrontation between Nurmagomedov's team and McGregor's team-mate Artem Lobov, said UFC President Dana White. Nurmagomedov later called on McGregor to call his team to resolve the matter.
But by this time, McGregor was already involved in the legal fallout from the attack that led to his being arrested on several counts, including two offenses criminal mischief.
Today, McGregor escaped a career-fighting crime that prevented him from traveling to the United States. In return for being guilty of a single charge of improper conduct, he agreed to a five-day civilian service, up to three days of trouble-management course, return to the bus company whose property he damaged, and a no-contact Mission to Three Persons
Outside the Brooklyn courthouse, McGregor thanked his supporters and quickly disappeared into a black SUV, one that resembled the one he jumped into when he fled his previous crime.
Nurmagomedov has long called for a fight with McGregor to find the best lightweight in the world, only to be frustrated by McGregor's absence from the cage.
Now a major roadblock has been lifted. When the two finally meet, hopefully extra security will be added.
